WHAT IS TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ) DYSFUNCTION

TMD is a common disorder that impedes the normal function of how the jaw moves. Whether the dysfunction is related to the join itself, the chewing muscles, or functional movement patterns, physical therapy can help.

You may need TMD therapy if you have:

  • Popping, locking & clicking of the jaw joint
  • Pre or Post jaw surgery
  • Pain with chewing & chronic grinding
  • Headaches (especially behind the eye & temporal region)
  • Fatigued jaw muscles
  • Overdeveloped masseters
  • Ear pain, dizziness, vertigo that was not resolved by ENT or Neurologist
  • Forward head posture
  • Cervical pain & tightness
  • Onset of jaw pain after having a baby (new, increased laxity of the temporomandibular joints occur with increased relaxin hormone)
